Veterans with service during active times of war are eligible for various benefits for care.
Veteran Homes
There are five nursing care homes for Veterans in Minnesota currently:
- Minneapolis
- Fergus Falls
- Hastings
- Luverne
- Silver Bay
All Veteran homes have an inactive and active waiting list. Completed paperwork can put you on either list. The inactive list may be appropriate if you feel the need is more than a year away. Filling out paperwork way in advance will take the stress off of finding the right important documents etc. when you may be dealing with decreased health.
There are also contracted nursing homes throughout the state. You can find a list of these here.
Adult Day Care
Minneapolis has an Adult Day Care for Veterans. This is a good option to relieve the caregiver. More information about Adult Day can be found here.
Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit
This benefit provides funds for veterans and spouses of veterans who require the regular attendance of another person to aid in their care.
This benefit IS NOT dependent upon service-related injuries for compensation. A married Veteran is eligible for up to $2,120 per month, while a surviving spouse is eligible for up to $1,153 per month.
Choice Connections is happy to connect you to the right people to answer your questions on these benefits.
