Availability Shifts in Care Options
There have been many changes due to the pandemic that we all are experiencing. Many of them have to do with supply of products due to shipping. In the senior living industry we have seen shifts too. Not only is staffing an issue as it is in all the service industry, but there is also less availability in memory care.
There are residents in senior living that have weathered the pandemic well. There are those residents that likely had some dementia or memory loss who have declined due to more isolation. In continuum settings, those residents have transferred to memory care.
Many campuses that have independent, assisted living and memory care are finding that they have availability in assisted living and not memory care. Prior to COVID this was more than likely the other way around, assisted living was full and memory care had openings.
For stand alone memory care options, we do see availability.
If you have a loved one that may need memory care down the road in a year or two, it would be good to start looking now and get on wait lists. Figure out what the best option for your loved one is. We are always happy to advise and walk along side you in your search.
