Admitting A Loved One to Assisted Living

As of August 1, all assisted livings have been under new licensure in Minnesota.   Now RNs need to have the assessment done and care plan documented prior to move in.  In the past, the RN had 14 days after moving in to have this completed.

Our experience over the last several months is that at some sites we don’t see much of a change.  Move ins are happening as they were in the past.  This is typically within a few days to a week. Were these options completing detailed care plans prior to the licensure change?  Our theory is that this may be true for larger providers that are in multiple states.

Move Ins May Take Longer

Due to this licensure change, we are experiencing that move ins are taking longer in some sites  than compared to the past.  The RN needs to have the care plan documented, and review 12 months of medical records for the senior moving in. The time it takes for an RN to receive the history and physical, review it and complete the care plan may slow down the move in timeline.
