November COVID-19 Senior Living Update
A New Normal
Senior living communities have and are adjusting to a new normal. New buildings are adding state of the art air purification systems and we hear of existing buildings adding them.
The process of testing residents and staff is becoming more common and the ongoing screening of visitors is common place in most settings.
Visits as an Essential Caregivers can occur even when the positive test cases are above 10% in the county but other visits are not allowed in that situation.
Many places have opened their dining rooms with social distancing in place and added back activities.
There is still a lot of variability across communities. Mostly this is due to COVID cases but also due to management decisions on how they will set protocols for their settings.
Staffing has been and will continue to be a challenge due to the pandemic and the marketplace in general. Some communities that have had stable staff and are smaller settings are doing well however with their staffing situation.
Moves are Happening
Move ins are happenings in many senior living buildings. There are great incentives and discounts for those that are willing to make a move. Census in assisted living on average is around 83 percent.
Recently I asked a client if she would have moved had it been the pandemic to get her take on it. You can here Mary Eileen share her thoughts by watching the video.
