Social Injustice

I will never truly be able to fully understand what it is like to have black skin.   Yet, I ask myself, could I understand better than I do?  And how can I help moving forward?

My heart has been heavy watching all the civil unrest.    How can I be demonstrating that black lives matter  more than I do today?

These past weeks since the pandemic, some of my college sorority sisters have been on a Saturday Zoom call.  We live in different states and it has been nice to catch up and compare notes on COVID-19 but more importantly to find things to laugh about.

What Can I Do to Make a Difference?

As the civil unrest unfolded in Minneapolis and across the US, the question came up on our call, what should/could we do to help right this wrong of police brutality and social injustice?

We have decided to start a book club and have compiled a list of books to choose from.    I thought I would share it here in case others are interested or have suggestions for other books to consider:

Beneath the Ruthless Sun

Between the World and Me

Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People

Deep Denial

How to Be an Antiracist

I’m Still Here

Just Mercy

Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World and Become a Good Ancestor

So You Want to Talk About Race

Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You

Stony the Road

The Color of Law

The New Jim Crow

The Warmth of Other Suns

Waking up White and Finding Myself in the Story of Race

White Fragility

This is not a big thing, but attitude and actions are a big part of change.   We all can learn and grow and make a difference in our daily lives.    Let’s hope for change where all are treated as equals.
